Privacy at ONRSR

ONRSR is recognised as an organisation under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cwlth) and is bound by that Act and the Australian Privacy Principles in the way that it collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information.

This statement sets out ONRSR's policies relating to the privacy and security of your personal information and security of your other information. This privacy and security statement applies only to onrsr.com.au (“site”).

Your privacy

Personal information is information about an individual that can identify that individual, such as their name and contact details, training records, bank details or licence number. Non-personal information, such as information about organisations is not covered by privacy legislation but may be bound by confidentiality requirements under the Rail Safety National Law (RSNL).

ONRSR’s Privacy Policy sets out our approach to handling personal and sensitive information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988, including:

• types of personal information collected and held by ONRSR;
• why and how ONRSR collects personal information;
• how ONRSR stores, uses and discloses personal information;
• how individuals can access and/or correct personal information that is held about them;

When ONRSR collects personal information about an individual, Australian Privacy Principle 5 requires us to notify that individual of certain matters, including:

• why and how their personal information is being collected;
• under what authority that information is collected;
• what happens if they refuse to provide that information;
• how their will be disclosed (if applicable);
• how to access and/or correct their information;
• how to make a complaint about a breach of the APPs.

Website privacy

When you visit our website, some of the information that is collected about your visit is not personal information, as it does not reveal your identity. This site collects and uses the following information from users:

• Site visit information
  • A record of your visit which may include the following information for statistical purposes - the user's IP address, the date and time of the visit to the site, the pages accessed, and documents downloaded, and the type of device, browser and operating system used. No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect our logs or those of our service provider's.
• Cookies
  • A cookie is a small string of information that a website transfers to your browser for identification purposes. The cookies we use do not identify individual users, although they do identify the user's internet browser, hardware device and IP address.

The site retains the contact details of people who utilise the 'Contact us' facility, so that we may respond to the query. Your personal information will not be disclosed to a third party except in accordance with section 244 of the Rail Safety National Law.

Despite its best efforts, ONRSR makes no warranties that our website is free of infection by computer viruses or other unauthorised software. ONRSR will not be liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense resulting from any breach of a security measure (including viruses or other unauthorised software).
