ONRSR 2020-2021 Rail Safety Report

As it has each year since our inception in 2013, ONRSR’s statistical picture of the safety landscape across the nation’s rail modes and networks has become clearer and more comprehensive.

The last financial year has, once again, brought into focus the generally strong safety culture within the industry that is so important to maintaining high safety standards. The report does, however, also document incidents and accidents that are an important reminder that the vigilance Rail Safety National Law demands of rail transport operators is critical to effective safety management.

By providing these important lessons, we continue to strengthen overall safety performance and keep Australians safe on our railways, and at the same time reinforce the foundations of the co-regulatory model that continues to serve us well.
