It is timely to consider the value of in-cab video and audio recordings in providing critical information about the in-cab environment in the moments leading to a rail incident on Australia’s rail network. This has been highlighted following recent fatal rail incidents and also in response to a number of ATSB investigations, where this information would help provide investigators and the rail industry with critical information that may help to prevent a similar incident from occurring again.
A consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) has been developed, which explores the costs and impacts of options for in-cab and audio recordings in the Australian rail environment and includes questions to seek your input to assist in assessing these options. Please click here to access the document or use the link below.
When making a submission, you are encouraged to respond to these questions (please also clearly identify which questions your responses relate to), and to provide evidence to support your views.
Consultation is open from Monday 28 September 2020 to Friday 23 October 2020. Submissions should be made to contact@onrsr.com.au before the closing time of 5pm (ACST) Friday 23 October 2020.
Submissions received by the closing time will be considered in preparing a Decision Regulatory Impact Statement (DRIS) with recommendations for Transport and Infrastructure Ministers in November 2020.
If you have any questions please contact Julie Bullas, Executive Director – Policy, Reform and Stakeholder Engagement by phone on (08) 8406 1550 (SA) or via email at Julie.bullas@onrsr.com.au
