About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a systems safety assurance professional to undertake the role of Manager, Major Projects, a national role which assists the Senior Manager to undertake comprehensive risk-based assessments of applications and/or variations to accreditation and related matters for major rail infrastructure, rolling stock and systems projects to ensure robust, quality and timely rail safety outcomes.

Based in Sydney or Melbourne, you will have extensive opportunity to travel interstate (particularly NSW) to support ONRSR’s work with significant railway projects. You’ll join the Major Projects team, where your knowledge of systems safety assurance and your ability to work independently will have a positive contribution to the safe delivery of railway projects. The Major Projects team works collaboratively and supports each other to provide a consistent approach to all major projects; additionally, you will have access to the engineering, rail systems and safety assurance experience provided by ONRSR’s team of technical specialists. In the role, you will have the opportunity to broaden your engineering experience and develop your professional skills.

About you – Your Impact and Contribution

You are an experienced system safety assurance manager with extensive experience in the delivery of major rail projects and programs and have highly developed communication, negotiation, interpersonal and report writing skills. You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and must hold relevant qualifications in engineering or an equivalent discipline and have knowledge of rail engineering disciplines, system safety and railway systems.

To be successful in the role you must be able to also demonstrate the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering.
  • Experience in the delivery of major rail projects and programs.
  • Knowledge of rail engineering disciplines and railway systems.
  • Proven experience and knowledge in the assessment of safety management systems and risk management in the rail industry for rail safety compliance.
  • Proven experience and knowledge in systems safety assurance in the rail industry in accordance with IEC 61508 and EN 50126, 50128, 50129 standards.
  • Experience in the delivery of safety improvement projects in the rail industry.
