  • ATSB Report - Derailment of ore train 4413, Bonnie Vale, WA on 14 May 2014

    On 14 May 2014, train 4413 – a bulk iron ore service operated by Aurizon, derailed on the Defined Interstate Rail Network (DIRN) between Stewart and Bonnie Vale, about 54 km west of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. As a result of the derailment there was significant damage to track and rolling stock. There were no injuries.
  • ATSB Report - Fire on freight train 3DA2 near Snowtown, South Australia on 21 August 2014

    At about 1055 on 21 August 2014, train 3DA2, carrying containerised freight (including dangerous goods), arrived at Snowtown, South Australia. While at Snowtown, the crew noticed smoke coming from one of the containers conveying dangerous goods. The crew contacted ARTC Network Control to arrange for the Country Fire Service to attend the site. An exclusion zone was set up around the site and the fire was brought under control with minimal damage sustained.
  • ATSB Report - Derailment of freight train 3MP9 near Malbooma SA on 10 April 2014

    At about 0011 on 10 April 2014, SCT Logistics train 3MP9 derailed after travelling over track that had been undercut by floodwaters near a culvert at the 535.150 km mark between Tarcoola and Malbooma, South Australia. The floodwaters caused scouring of the track formation, compromising its capacity to support the train.
  • Amendments to the NSW Rail Safety Regulations

    Minor amendments have been made to the Rail Safety (Adoption of National Law) Regulation 2012, in line with amendments made to the Road Transport Act 2013 relating to drug and alcohol testing.
