ONRSR’s Rail Locomotive Boilers Guideline is now available to help rail transport operators understand what is required and the evidence to be provided to demonstrate compliance with the Rail Safety National Law.
The guideline focuses on the competence of boiler operators, maintainers, repairers and independent inspectors. It clearly sets out ONRSR’s expectations for demonstrating that risks to safety have been eliminated or minimised so far as is reasonably practicable.
It doesn’t change what is expected of rail transport operators, in that ONRSR still expects them to follow industry best practice (such as the RISSB Code of Practice for inspection maintenance and repair of rail locomotive boilers and relevant Australian Standards).
Thank you to those people and organisations who provided feedback during the development of the guideline. The time and effort put into the submissions was much appreciated and we received some very high quality feedback, which has been taken on-board.
